KATAPATA CAD

KATAPATA CAD

Patternmaking Beyond the Sloper

KATAPATA CAD is a future concept for developing sewing patterns from slopers created with KATAPATA. It is being considered as a separate, PC-oriented patternmaking tool.

CONCEPT & DEVELOPMENT PLANNING
THE IDEA

From custom sloper to garment pattern

KATAPATA SLOPER TOOL

Create the foundation

The current browser-based KATAPATA tool creates custom basic bodice, sleeve, and planned optional slopers from body measurements.

It is designed as the starting point for pattern development.

KATAPATA CAD

Develop the design

KATAPATA CAD is being considered as a workspace for turning saved KATAPATA slopers into garment patterns.

The detailed specifications, functions, and development schedule have not yet been finalized.

PLANNED WORKFLOW

A connected patternmaking process

This describes the current concept and is not a final product specification.

STEP 1

Create a sloper

Generate and adjust a custom sloper in the KATAPATA Sloper Tool.

STEP 2

Save the data

Save the completed KATAPATA working-data file.

STEP 3

Open it in CAD

Use the saved sloper as the starting point in a larger PC workspace.

STEP 4

Develop the pattern

Edit the foundation to create garment pattern pieces.

AREAS BEING EXPLORED

Possible patternmaking functions

The following areas are ideas under consideration and are not promised final features.

EDITING

Pattern-line editing

Adjust outlines, points, curves, and internal construction lines in a dedicated drafting workspace.

DESIGN

Style development

Develop necklines, silhouettes, style lines, and other design changes from the basic sloper.

DARTS

Dart and shaping work

Explore dart manipulation and other shaping methods as part of garment pattern development.

PIECES

Additional pattern pieces

Create or edit pieces such as facings, collars, pockets, and other components.

SEWING

Construction information

Consider seam allowances, notches, grainlines, labels, and other production details.

OUTPUT

Printable pattern output

Export developed pattern pieces in formats suitable for printing and assembly.

PC-ORIENTED

Designed for a larger workspace

Detailed patternmaking needs more room

The current KATAPATA Sloper Tool is designed to remain usable on smartphones and tablets. Pattern development involves more pieces, controls, and precise editing, so KATAPATA CAD is being considered primarily for PC use.

  • Wider drafting area
  • More precise mouse-based editing
  • Better comparison of multiple pattern pieces
  • Room for patternmaking tools and settings
